Complements Only

A Gazelle and a Llama were at an ice cream shop trying different ice cream flavors.

"Hmm, I think I have mine narrowed down to raspberry cheesecake and chocolate chunk," Lonnie, the Llama, decided, "Man, this is going to be tough to narrow down."

"I know what you mean," Gilly, the Gazelle, concurred, " I'm torn between Chocolate Brownie Crunch and Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough."

This was a pretty tough decision for Lonnie and Gilly. They both liked getting their favorite ice cream when they went out for ice cream, and usually, that was pretty easy. But not today.

“Why don’t you just get two scoops?” said the Koala who was working the ice cream stand.”

Lonnie and Gilly were both keeping an eye on their figures so they both knew individually it was probably best to go with just one scoop instead of two. But, they accidentally made eye contact, and to the two of them, it was clear what the right thing to do was.

“Hell yeah,” said Lonnie, "Let's do two scoops, I'll have one scoop of Raspberry cheesecake and one scoop of chocolate chunk!"

"Great choices!" the Koala exclaimed, as he went to retrieve the scoops for Lonnie.

What a fun day this was turning out to be.

The Koala handed Lonnie his ice cream and asked Gilly what they would like.

"I want one scoop of the Chocolate Brownie Crunch and one scoop of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, please," Gilly asked, excited.

"Sorry, I can't do that." The Koala replied flatly.

"Really? Are you out of one? We're the only ones here and I just tried both of those flavors," Gilly asked, concerned.

"No, we have them both," The Koala replied, "But they are too similar to each other. Here at the Ice Cream Fun House, we encourage people to try complementary flavors when they get two scoops."

Both Lonnie and Gilly were totally weirded out by this. What kind of ice cream place does that?

Gilly: "This is not a very nice thing to demand of your customers."

Lonnie: "Yeah! Let the customer order what they want!"

Koala: "Oh, okay then, you wanted brownie and cookie dough?"

Gilly: "Yeah!"

Koala: "Fine."

The Koala reluctantly began scooping the ice cream that Gilly asked for and handed it over. Lonnie and Gilly paid and then left.

"That was so weird?" Lonnie began.

"Yeah, and he folded so quickly," Gilly observed, "By the way how is your ice cream, Lonnie?"

"It's great! I like the two scoops it gets a real variety of flavors, and they complement each other really well," Lonnie replied, "How's yours?"

"Well..." Gilly hesitated, "It's kind of a lot of the same flavors, to be honest. Next time I'm going to try flavors that complement each other. That actually seems like a pretty good idea, now."
