Sandy Makes A Salad

The Squirrel had taken it upon herself to invite all of her friends over for a big meal. She thought it would be nice for everyone to get together and see each other before the winter really settled in.

As her guests arrived they sat down at the table. The bunny sat down in front of the salad, the Deer sat down in front of the salad, the chipmunk noticed that the salad had walnuts in it so he sat down in front of the salad as well. The salad was much more popular than the Squirrel had anticipated. She quickly ran to put more chairs in front of the salad for everyone to sit.

"The salad looks so good!" Said the Bunny.

"Maybe the best salad I've ever seen!" The Deer added.

"Kudos on the primo salad Sandy!" Chirped the Chipmunk.

Sandy the Squirrel had no idea why everyone was gravitating towards the salad. She had made many other dishes for the feast including fan favorites like Mac and Cheese and Mashed Potatoes. Surely, someone would want to dig in to any of the other dishes first before the salad.

More guests were arriving. The Bear came in, took off his coat and scanned all the food on the table. He finally laid eyes on the salad:

"My heavens, would you look at that..." The Bear's mouth dropped open in shock, "If that isn't the finest looking salad I have ever seen in my life. Sandy, it's beautiful."

Sandy was starting to get suspicious. It was a salad. She had made that salad a million times for herself as an afterthought. It was a fine salad, quite good, sure, but not so amazing as everyone seemed to be making it out to be.

"What gives? Why is everyone so excited about the salad?" Sandy finally asked.

The animals all looked at each other, something unspoken passed between them, they were all on the same page.

"What? What's with all the looks?" Sandy persisted.

"Don't you see Sandy?" The Deer began, "It's right in front of you, come look."

Sandy walked over to the salad. She saw nothing out of the ordinary at all. It was the same salad she had made a million times.

"You guys have all lost your marbles" She finally said, irked, "But whatever, just grab a plate and let's eat."

"No!"

"Eat!?"

"Why!?"

Everyone shouted in shock.

"You can't really expect us to eat this perfect salad!"

Sandy sighed. This was bananas. Everyone continued to ogle this very plain and boring salad as if it were the greatest salad that has ever been made in the history of the world. There was no reasoning with them. Sandy fixed herself a plate and sat down to eat.

"I'm the only person who isn't crazy." She thought, as she dug into her food while all her friends continued to lose their minds at the alter of a salad.
